Far East Landfill Technolgoies Ltd. (FELT) is the operator of a 35 million m3 strategic landfill (North East New Territories (NENT) and fill), which is owned by the Government of the Hong Kong SAR. FELT has been awarded the long-term contract to design, build and operate (DBO) the NENT landfill, and to undertake aftercare of the landfill for 30 years after it is full.

FELT is owned by SITA Wastc Services Limited and New World Environmental Service Management Ltd. SITA Waste Services Limited is a wholly owned subsidiary of Suez Environment, a company of the SUEZ group which is based in France. New World Environmental Services Limited is a company of the New World Development Company Limited.

FELT brings together the strengths of local commitment and know-how and international environmental expertise to ensure that the management and development of the NENT landfill project is a reliable, environmentally responsible and economical disposal solution for Hong Kong's waste. With all the challenges that FELT faces in designing, building and operating this waste disposal facility, high international standards have been adopted for the company's quality management system which is certified to ISO 9001:2000, the environmental management system which is certified to ISO 14001:2000 and the safety management system which is certified to OHSAS: 18001:1999.

Waste is presently being delivered to the landfill at a rate of some 2,500 tonnes per day. During the filling phase of the landfill, a contract has been set up for the supply of synthetic natural gas produced at NENT from landfill gas. This 25 year contract represents the successful utilization of landfill gas as renewable energy.
