WEEE．PARK is a state-of-the-art Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) treatment and recycling facility located on a 3-hectare site in EcoPark, Tuen Mun. It signifies Hong Kong SAR Government’s commitment towards sustainable use of resources and provides an essential infrastructure in support of the producer responsibility scheme (PRS) on WEEE (WPRS).
WEEE contains harmful materials such as lead, mercury and greenhouse gases, which may cause harm to the environmental and human health if not properly treated or disposed of. As one of the leading facilities of its kind in the world, WEEE·PARK adopts advanced technologies to turn regulated WEEE into valuable secondary raw materials through a series of detoxification, dismantling and recycling processes. Stringent control over hazardous components contained in WEEE is exercised in the process.
The contract to design, build and operate the WEEE．PARK was awarded to ALBA-IWS following an open tender. ALBA-IWS is a joint venture company established by the recycling specialist ALBA Group from Germany and local solid waste management service provider Integrated Waste Solutions Group Holdings Limited. The contract operation period is 10 years.
