A great, emblematic cuvée that has represented the very spirit of Charlier & Fils since 1962. The Carte Noire displays the full diversity of our grape varieties, in particular the Pinot Meunier for its fruitiness, and all the riches of our Marne Valley terroir, revealing all the complexity that is its hallmark.
Blend :
60 % Pinot Meunier
20 % Pinot Noir
20 % Chardonnay
Tasting notes :
The bouquet is refined and precise. Its nose reveals white fruits (apple, white peach) joined by spiced nuances. In the mouth, the attack is frank with an elongated structure that embodies the balance of this champagne. To be enjoyed as an aperitif, with starters, fish, tarts, poultry, and white, light meats.
Like all our cuvées, the Carte Noire Brut is entirely vinified in oak casks (large-capacity barrels) before bottling.
In order to maintain Charlier & Fils’ enduring style, 40 to 50% of this brut sans année (non-vintage) consists of reserve wines which are also vinified in oak casks for several years, and specially selected to reinforce the intensity and constancy of the blend.
It achieves its full complexity after four years’ rest in the cellar.
SILVER MEDAL International Wine Challenge 2017. Comment : « Vibrant lemon sherbet and honey. Fresh brioche, sour cream and green apples on the palate. »
GOLD MEDAL Gilbert et Gaillard 2015. Comment : « Light yellow robe, golden gleams. Well-developed nose, white fruits. Generous attack, mouthfeel combining the same fruit as the nose, touches of spice, and a delicate rancio. A vigorous, bold combination with plenty of vivacity. »
