It dehydrates when heated to 130 °C and decomposes at 228 °C. The solubility of trans‑copper glycinate in water is lower than that of cis‑copper glycinate, which enables their separation. It is insoluble in hydrocarbons, ethers and ketones, slightly soluble in ethanol, and soluble in water. It is prepared by the reaction of copper salts with glycine.
