These are a wide range of cold cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFLs) bulbs which have glass tubes filled with inert gases. When a high voltage is placed across the tube, the glass ionizes to create UV light. The UV light, in turn, exits an inner coating of phosphor and creates visible light.
