Gac Fruit From Northern Vietnam

The large, spiky orange-colored gac fruit is a truly a Vietnamese original. With only two months a year to harvest, and only the central and northern regions for it to grow, the gac fruit is gaining wider notoriety for its health benefits.
The gac fruit draws its deep red-orange hues from beta-carotene and lycopene, the compound commonly found in carrots and tomatoes respectively. These compounds support healthy vision. The gac fruit is commonly used in xôi gấc (gac sticky rice) and gives young children the nutrients they need.
