Songyuan City is a prefecture-level city approved the by the State Council in 1992. It is located in mid-west of Jilin Province, in Northeast China. With a total population of 2.92 million, the city covers an area of 22,000 square kilometers, and governs one city, three counties, one district, and one development zone on the national level and four on the provincial-level. It is an important transport hub and logistics center linking three northeastern provinces and Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region including eight cities and 14 counties (banner). It may possibly radiate to the surrounding areas with a population of more than 34 million.
By implementing the opening-up strategy and continuously strengthening regional cooperation, it has introduced a number of national state enterprises including Petro China, Sinopec, COFCO Group, Datang Power, and quite a few foreign companies like Cargill from the United States, Japanese Fujio, China Resources of Hong Kong.
