Nanchang is the capital city of Jiangxi Province, administering four counties (Nanchang, Xinjian, Jinxian and Anyi Counties), five districts (Donghu District, Xihu District, Qingyunpu District, Wanli District and Qingshanhu District), three state-level Development Zones (Nanchang Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone, Nanchang Economic and Technological Development Zone and Nanchang Xiaolan Economic Development Zone), a provincial-level Development Zone (Sanghai Economic and Technological Development Zone), an industrial park and Honggutan New District. Its area totals 7,402 square kilometers, with a total population of 5.1 million people.
Nanchang is a famous city, integrating modern and ancient styles, possessing not only profound urban cultural areas and an advantageous location, but also favorable industry.
In 2014, Nanchang will implement a three-year intensive plan in the four areas of industry, the service industry, the reconstruction of the old city and the construction of new city.
There is an aim to increase income from industrial businesses and as a result to reach an income of US$128 billion before 2016. To do this, the plan is to build nine pillar industries, namely, automobile, food, electronic information, new materials, medicine, aviation manufacturing, textile clothing, new energy and electromechanical manufacturing.
In the service industry, plans are to build five regional service centres, with a complete investment of US$96.6 billion, and to reach a consolidated income of US$128 billion.
Another step of the plan is the construction of a new city. The Jiulonghu region in Honggutan will be built into a new city, with a construction area of 40 square kilometers, and an estimated population of 300,000.
In addition to this is the reconstruction of the old city, with completion of the reconstruction task in the central urban area involving the reconstruction of about 60 thousand households. There will also be a focus on construction projects of eight supporting infrastructures, such as the Xianghu tunnel for rail transit.
