描述

Automatic Retinal Image Analysis (ARIA), developed by a local university in Hong Kong, is an algorithm built on a cloud-based internet platform. Standard retinal images can be transmitted through the internet to a server installed with the computer algorithm, which uses machine learning and mathematical modelling to read pixel-by-pixel retinal images and estimate important retinal characteristics for risk assessment of various chronic diseases. As the retina and brain share the same microvascular system, changes in the retina's vascular system may reflect similar changes in the brain. Thus, ARIA can provide an overall rating on the risk of chronic illnesses such as stroke and cognitive health (i.e. White Matter Hyperintensity in the brain-MRI).

A report will be sent back to the site within minutes. The results will be stored in the central server so that clients and health professionals can access them anytime and anywhere. ARIA is fast and easy to use:

Step 1 - Capture image

The operator can use a fundus camera to capture the retinal image, which usually takes less than 5 minutes.

Step 2 - Upload image

A personal computer with wireless internet is connected to the fundus camera. Captured images will be encrypted and transferred to a cloud server platform for analysis and reporting.

Step 3 – Analysis

ARIA automatically analyzes the uploaded fundus photo without any human intervention. The analysis process takes less than a few minutes.

Step 4 – Report

A report will be sent back to the site within minutes. The results will be stored in the central server so that clients and health professionals can access them anytime and anywhere.
