ZIP ART

Romance in ZIP is a Japanese design brand that develops ZIP ART®, an art jewelry brand using zippers as its primary material.

In 2017, founder Risa Suzuki began creating accessories after discovering the structural beauty and expressive potential of zippers. In the same year, she won the Grand Prix at the Swarovski Design Contest. ZIP ART® was registered as a trademark in 2020, and Romance in ZIP was established in Itabashi, Tokyo, in 2022.

ZIP ART® reinterprets the zipper not merely as a functional component, but as a form of wearable art. Using premium zippers such as YKK EXCELLA®, the brand incorporates the zipper’s opening, closing, and connecting mechanisms directly into the design. Its collection includes transformable necklaces and bracelets, as well as pieces whose final form can be chosen by the wearer.

The brand has received numerous awards in design, ideas, and craftsmanship, including the 2017 Swarovski Design Contest Grand Prix, the 2018 SHUFU-1 Grand Prix, the 2020 E QUORITY BEAUTY CONTEST Grand Prix, the 2023 Grand Prix at the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry’s “Fukushima Reconstruction Project,” the 2024 YKK USA “Zip into the Future, Go Green Contest” Grand Prix, the 2024 DIME Best Post Grand Prix Gold Award for fan-support ideas, and the 2025 Itabashi Product Technology Award Excellence Award, presented by the Itabashi Branch of the Tokyo Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Romance in ZIP also maintains an ongoing relationship with YKK. In addition to winning a YKK USA competition, the brand has participated in exhibitions and workshops at the YKK Center for Creation and has served as a core member of the second term of the “YKK Tsunagu Club” since April 2026, receiving material support and technical advice while continuing to explore new possibilities in zipper expression.

The brand is also actively expanding overseas. It exhibited at a fashion trade show in Shanghai in 2025. In September 2026, ZIP ART® will exhibit with its own booth at CENTRESTAGE 2026 in Hong Kong, followed by participation in the JETRO Japan Pavilion at Saudi Fashion & Textile EXPO 2026. The brand is also developing sales channels in Asian markets including Singapore and Taiwan.

Today, Romance in ZIP develops three lines: the main ZIP ART® line, the one-of-a-kind art jewelry line Romance in ZIP, and AIRANOR, a collaborative line featuring indigo-dyed leather. In addition to finished products, the brand also works on corporate and artisan collaborations, custom products, OEM projects, and other new forms of manufacturing inspired by the zipper.
