Hand-Carved Mahjong Tiles By Hong Kong Craftsman, New & Fresh Color, Canton / American
[Our Story]
Mahjong is a popular game for family and friends among Chinese community. It has a long history and brings people together for a lot of fun. But it is not easy to find fully hand-carved mahjong tiles with only very few artisans left in Hong Kong.
For our artist and craftmanship, mahjong has a much deeper family connection. The grandfather started making mahjong tiles as a young apprentice and opened the first factory in Hong Kong in 1963. The artisans produced mahjong tiles following traditional methods of craftsmanship. This traditional craftsmanship was passed down to the father, who expanded the business during 1980s and 1990s, becoming one of the largest factories in Hong Kong.
Although the factory was forced to close down in 2009, the spirit of traditional mahjong tile craftmanship stays alive. Traditional mahjong craftsmanship has been passed down in our artist's family from generation to generation in Hong Kong. This beautiful set of mahjong tiles is hand carved by the father, a master craftsman who learned the traditional methods from grandfather.
Each tile is painstakingly hand carved, hand painted and rubbed off by the master, making them very special and rarely found over the world. Our craftsman has over 40-year experience and he has an excellent work in hand-carving tiles. We use special paint with light and fresh color for the new set of mahjong tiles, which is not available elsewhere.
