Traditional Mahjong Tiles hand-carved by Hong Kong craftsman, Canton or American Versions
Mahjong is a popular game for family and friends among Chinese community. It has a long history and brings people together for a lot of fun. However, it is no longer easy to find a complete set of genuine hand-carved mahjong tiles with only few artisans left in Hong Kong.
Our artist and artisan have a much deeper family connection. The grandfather started making mahjong tiles as a young apprentice and opened the first factory in Hong Kong in 1963. The artisans produced mahjong tiles following traditional methods of craftsmanship. This traditional craftsmanship was passed down to the father, who expanded the business during 1980s and 1990s, and the whole family was working under the same roof.
Although the factory was forced to close down in 2009 due to severe competition in mainland. However, the spirit of traditional mahjong tile craftmanship stays alive. This complete set of tiles are all hand carved, hand painted and rubbed off by the craftsman using traditional crafting tools. Our craftsman has over 40-year experience and one of the very few artisans left in Hong Kong with excellent hand-carving talents.
