Taonan City is in northwest of Jilin Province, located in the center of east border area between the provinces in Northeast of China and Inner Mongolia. It is known as "the ancient town for a thousand years, the local capital city for a hundred years". The city has been awarded the title of "national double support model city" for many years.
Taonan is a grain base on the national level with a high production of grain and cotton. It is also a famous county for producing multigrain, beans, chili, Watermelon and vermicelli. It is rich in pepper, castor, maize, rice, watermelon, grains and beans, etc. By relying on leading enterprises, the planting areas of pepper, castor, multigrain and beans have reached 300,000 mu (1 acre=15 mu), 200,000 mu and 700,000 mu respectively. Its animal husbandry has also developed rapidly.
As an old industrial base of Jilin Province, Taonan City has abundant land, water, electricity, gas and other industrial resources as well as good supporting services. It has over thirty thousand skilled workers and its industries include green energy, medicine development, textiles and clothing, metallurgy manufacturing, food brewing, leather processing, deep processing of agricultural products and so on with an annual turnover of 100 billion RMB yuan.
Standing at a new historical starting point, Taonan City will take the scientific development as the theme, expanding its overall economy as the goal. It focuses on project construction, highlights the development of the private economy as the basis to achieve a new economic and social leap forward and strives to become one of the powerful economic counties in Jilin Province during "the twelfth five years plan" period.
