Alto de la Ballena 

We are a boutique winery located in the southeast region of Uruguay, 20 minutes away from the summer retreat Punta del Este. Our vines grow on the slopes and foothill of Whale Hills, very close to the Atlantic Ocean. Moderate hot maritime climate, low fertility of well drained soils, appropriate vineyard management and low yields provide high quality grapes for outstanding wines. Our history: In 1998, with no more experience than that of being wine enthusiasts, we decided to set up a small winery. The choice of the terrier to plant the vineyards was crucial; we considered topography, soil and climate, to ensure an excellent quality of grapes, essential for the production of high-quality wines.We planted the vines between 2001 and 2004, and got our our first harvest in 2005. Today our wines are sold in local restaurants and boutique shops, and exported to Sweden, Shanghai, Mexico and Brazil.
