Aya Kawa began in 2009 as a small family business where artist & designer Lynn Elzinga-Henry began creating unique ties for her two sons who wanted something other than solids, spots or stripes. The Aya Kawa designs honor the strong influence of the traditional textile arts Lynn studied in Kyoto in the early 70's. 'Aya' meaning colorful woven silk and 'Kawa' meaning river, combine to aptly capture this evocative range of exquisite silk ties. Aya Kawa are tie specialists located in the Adelaide Hills of South Australia. Ties are made using 100% silk, woven on a 2400 hook jacquard loom. The interlining is pure wool; the tipping, silk and the ties are hand sewn. Whether it is for the groom at a wedding, or that floral finish to a race day outfit, we are honored to be the tie of choice for every special occasion. Aya Kawa create ties that are truly unique, beautiful to look at and luxurious to touch. Each limited edition, boxed tie, contains details of the design, is numbered and is signed by the designer. Aya Kawa also produces a range of cufflinks that are designed around details of motifs from the tie range.
