 Three American Brothers, a Love of Colombia and a Fondness for Rum 

Parce Rum was forged from the familial bonds that unite three Chicago-born, Irish-American brothers—Jim, Brian and Patrick Powers. In 2010, the three brothers gathered at Patrick’s farm in Colombia and reminisced over glasses of rum about their late father, when it dawned on them. Rum. The brothers envisioned creating and marketing a world-class sipping rum. They called it “Parce,” pronounced PAR-say, which is Colombian slang for “good friend,” “buddy” or “pal,” to honor the genuine spirit of friendliness and hospitality that permeates Colombian culture.

 Meeting a Father-Son Master Blender Team from Bogota 

The only catch was that none of the brothers had a background in spirits production. Jaime Uribe (who would also join in the founding of Parce Rum) was acquainted with a father and son team of master blenders from Bogota, Arthur and Brojen Fernandes Domecq, who have more than 50 years of fine rum experience between them. The father and son brought not only their profound understanding of rum and years of blending experience, but also Arthur’s own long-held dream of creating a line of superior rums with his family that would delight the palates of both Colombians and international spirits aficionados.


 Parce Rum’s One Bottle=One Tree Program Helps Colombia One Tree at a Time 

To further celebrate their love of Colombia, its environment and biodiversity, the brothers created the Parce Rum One Bottle=One Tree Program. For every bottle of Parce Rum sold, a native species tree is planted in a deforested region of Colombia. The Parce Rum trees are currently planted in the village of El Santuario, Antioquia. To date, more than 12,000 trees have been planted, with 10,000 more estimated in the coming year and 70,000 targeted for the future. The trees not only help offset the carbon footprint, but also prevent deforestation and protect the water resources used by the region’s inhabitants.
