The Schioppettino DOC is a wine typical of the Cividale area and derived from Ribolla Nera (Black Ribolla), an indigenous variety planted on hilly land of the Friuli region. The wine is aged for a minimum period of 12 months in barriques and in 20-year-old chestnut casks the Rubini family use exclusively for Schioppettino aging. Schioppettino has an intensely ruby red color with purple glints. The smell is distinctive of the varietal, slightly herbaceous with raspberry aromas and a characteristic green peppercorn scent. The taste is dry, smooth, full bodied with elegant soft fruits flavors and fragrance; its slight herbaceousness is mellowed by liquorices and lingering vanilla tones. Schioppettino finishes with a long persistent green peppercorns back palate taste.
