Aloe barbadensis is a natural organic compound, also known as aloin or barbaloin, and is crystallized in ethanol as yellow needle-like crystals. It is readily soluble in water and pyridine, and soluble in glacial acetic acid, formic acid, acetone, methyl acetate, and ethanol. It is a concentrated and dried extract of the leaf juice from monocotyledonous plants such as Aloe barbadensis Miller, Aloe ferox Miller, or other closely related species (e.g., Aloe vera).
