Comprising varietal wines of distinction, our Family Cellar range was created to be something special from the outset. The marriage of magnificent fruit from sustainable, old vineyards (over 50 years old) and traditional, hand-crafted wine-making techniques ensure beautifully balanced, elegant table wines that display a true sense of place. Our Marsanne has bewitching aromas of pears, quinces and musk with layers of a creamy texture and a nutty flavor from oaks and yeast lees. Wine-making Marsanne responds well to ultra-modern techniques of cold fermentation in stainless steel. However, it can really shine when given minimalist, old style techniques such as hand harvesting and wild fermentation. In 2010, we encouraged fermentation in barrels by indigenous yeast then aged on the lees for 18 months. We have done as little as possible in the final stages, minimizing fining and filtration to present the wine in all its glory. We have been making Family Cellar Marsanne since the 2003 vintage (a wine still drinking beautifully, full of vibrant fruit and with stunning depth and subtlety). This 2010 Marsanne should cellar well for at least a decade, perhaps longer. This is a richly flavored wine and will be a perfect foil for winter favorites like wild mushroom risotto or as simply prepared roasted chicken with root vegetables.
