Yeringberg has been owned and managed by the de Pury family for 151 years.
 
It is one of the most distinguished wine producing properties in the Yarra Valley, and despite a tiny production of 1500 cases each year, it has a huge reputation for wines of elegance, finesse and longevity.
 
  The History  
Baron de Pury migrated from Switzerland and purchased 1100 acres of prime Yarra Valley land.  His gravity-fed wooden winery and underground cellars are still intact and are classified by the National Trust of Australia. 
 
The Baron and his son, George, made Yeringberg famous with their fine wines.  They won gold medals at exhibitions in London, Paris, Bordeaux, Calcutta and San Francisco.
 
The decline of the world market for Australian table wines after World War 1 led to the demise of the Yarra Valley vineyards.  In 1921 Yeringberg was the last big Yarra Valley vineyard to pull out their vines.  The vines were replaced with cattle, and Yeringberg continues to graze sheep and cattle to this day. 
 
In 1969, the Baron’s grandson, Guill re-established the Yeringberg vineyard on the north-east slopes originally chosen by his ancestor more than a century earlier.
  
  The Present  
Sandra de Pury (fourth generation) is the winemaker and her brother David de Pury is the viticulturist and farm manager.
 
Yeringberg wines are made only from grapes that are grown at Yeringberg, thus consistently reflecting the site, the weather and the vines.  The vines are hand pruned and the grapes hand-picked. The wines are hand-made and are cellared underground in the best French oak barrels.
 
Yeringberg wines are an essential part of any wine cellar. They are highly regarded by important wine critics including James Halliday, Jeremy Oliver, and The Wine Advocate.  The Yeringberg red is included in the Langton’s Classification of Australian wine.
