Ruijin Economic and Technological Development Zone was established in May 2002, and the State Council approved the area as a national economic and technological development zone in November 2013. It is the “agricultural products processing demonstration base” and the “eel and spirulina export processing demonstration base" of Jiangmen Province and also a “provincial private science and technology zone”.
Its total planned area is 43 square kilometers and has recently added another 11 square kilometers. The zone focuses on the development of electrical machinery and equipment manufacturing, food processing, new building materials, clean energy, advanced equipment manufacturing and the new materials industry.
The development zone has had investment for its construction of US$1.09 billion and it has built a trunk road network and perfect water supply, power supply, drainage, sewage and other infrastructure construction. Currently, 153 enterprises have moved into the development zone, 115 enterprises are in production and 38 enterprises are still under construction. About 32 industrial enterprises are above the designated size, and there has been an initial formation of various industries, including electrical machinery and equipment manufacturing, food processing, garment bags, toys and other leading industries.
