The name of this wine refers to the first historical references to the cultivar Dolcetto. In a document of 1593 which is located in the municipality of Dogliani city, it was written that no one should pick grapes before 21th September, which is St. Matteo's day. San Mate' infant in our local language means St. Matteo.
