Guizhou: a major producer of ecological food

Guizhou Province, abbreviated as “Qian” or “Gui”, serves as an important hub in southwestern China, connecting South China and Central China. The province lies at the heart of the Yangtze River Economic Belt and the Pearl River–West River Economic Belt. It is in close proximity to the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area and is an important land–sea corridor in western China for the Belt and Road Initiative.
A modern industrial system
Guizhou Province is building a modern industrial system based around 12 characteristic and advantageous sectors in agriculture, 10 major industries and 10 major innovative development projects in the service industry.

Building a national industrial base for ecological food
Guizhou Province leverages its natural resources and ecological advantages to promote the development of its refined food processing industry, with a focus on chili-based condiments, tea and refined tea, meat and meat products, grain, oil and soy products, Rosa roxburghii fruits, sour soup, edible fungi, natural drinking water, speciality drinks and more.

Development advantages
  • Abundant natural resources
    Thanks to its advantageous ecological environment, Guizhou boasts a wealth of biological resources. This includes more than 3,800 types of wild animals and plants, more than 500 edible wild plant species and more than 600 types of wild plants for industrial use. The plantation and production scales of tea, chili, Rosa roxburghii fruit, blueberry, kiwi fruit and dragon fruit rank are among the largest in the country. Organic and premium agricultural raw materials are in sufficient supply.
  • Broad product range
    Guizhou Province is home to 713 food enterprises producing a wide range of ecological and speciality food. These include condiments, grain and oil products, soy products, meat products, tea products, dairy products, beverages, fruits and vegetables. Together, these enterprises form a comprehensive industrial system.
  • High brand recognition
    During the 13th Five-Year Plan period, Guizhou Province saw 371 food varieties certified as green food. There were 137 geographical indications of agricultural products registered, 14 of which fell under the scope of the China–EU Agreement on Protection of Geographical Indications. Notable items include Guizhou green tea, Fenggang zinc-and-selenium-rich tea and Duyun Maojian tea.
Industrial layout
Guizhou Province is developing its ecological food industry with “two cores, three belts and six zones”.
  • Two cores
    Qianzhong (Central Guizhou) Core Area for Refined Food Processing: primarily includes the Shuanglong, Wudang, Huaxi, Xiuwen and Gui’an Development Zones located in the Gui’an New District of Guiyang City. The main development areas include refined chili processing, meat and meat product processing, speciality beverage processing, instant food and snack processing, healthy and nutritional food processing, industrialised catering, etc.

    Qianbei (North Guizhou) Core Area for Refined Food Processing: primarily includes the Huichuan, Bozhou, Meitan, Fenggang and Yuqing Development Zones in Zunyi City. The main development areas include chili processing, tea and refined tea processing, grain and oil processing, meat and meat product processing, etc.
  • Three belts
    Industrial Belt for High-efficiency Processing in Northeast Guizhou: primarily includes the development zones along Zunyi, Tongren and Qiandongnan (southeastern Guizhou). The main development areas include grain and oil processing, chili processing, tea processing, drinking water processing, meat and meat product processing, edible fungi, etc.

    Industrial Belt for High-efficiency Processing in West Guizhou: primarily includes the development zones along Bijie, Liupanshui, Anshun and Qianxinan (southwestern Guizhou). The main development areas include Rosa roxburghii fruit processing, grain processing, fruit and vegetable juice processing, healthy and nutritional food, tea processing, edible fungi, etc.

    Industrial Belt for High-efficiency Processing in South Guizhou: primarily includes the development zones along Qiandongnan (southeastern Guizhou) and Qiannan (southern Guizhou). The main development areas include tea processing, fruit and vegetable juice processing, meat product processing, as well as Rosa roxburghii fruits, sour soup, edible fungi, etc.
  • Six zones
    Building six distinctive food processing zones, namely Chishui Economic Development Zone, Bijiang Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone, Jinsha Economic Development Zone, Xixiu Economic Development Zone, Weining Economic Development Zone and Hongguo Economic Development Zone.
