The three biggest headaches for SME owners: manpower shortages, rising costs, and increasingly demanding customers. Competition is getting fiercer — how can you stand out? As competitors begin adopting AI and robotics to capture market opportunities, how can SMEs with limited resources quickly catch up?
In January’s Digital Academy seminar, Kit Wong, Founder of Wavenex; and Albert Lam, Founder of Novelte Robotics, shared insights on advanced AI applications beyond image creation and content writing, and how to choose the right robotics solutions to boost marketing efficiency and expand into overseas markets.
Emergence of "Digital Colleagues"
In 2026, artificial intelligence technology is undergoing a profound transformation: the focus of enterprise applications is shifting from simple generative AI tools to AI agents capable of autonomous decision-making and workflow execution. For small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) facing labor shortages and increasing cost pressures, this is no longer just a buzzword in tech news — it marks a new starting point for competitiveness.
According to Kit, Founder of Wavenex, generative AI has been widely used in recent years for tasks like copywriting, graphic design, and making presentations. However, the key shift in 2026 is that AI is beginning to join human teams as “agents.” These AI agents can connect with a company’s existing systems and data to automatically complete a series of tasks according to preset goals — such as data collection, analysis, report writing, presentation preparation, and even promotional video generation — essentially becoming the company’s “digital colleagues.”
Robotics Applications Across Industries
On the other hand, as AI begins to truly “understand spaces” and “interact with the real world,” robots are no longer just cold machines on industrial production lines. Instead, they are becoming intelligent service carriers capable of moving freely through hospitals, restaurants, shopping malls, schools, and public facilities.
Albert, Founder of Novelte Robotics, pointed out that robots are already being applied in multiple fields, including smart hospitals, the food and beverage industry, property management, education, and public sectors. While many employees worry that robots will replace their jobs, Albert believes robots will instead significantly enhance employee productivity by taking over repetitive and dangerous tasks, thereby freeing up workers’ time.
Albert also highlighted the application of robotics in the toy industry, saying that the new generation of toys will have built-in AI. These next-generation toys will feature customized outfit, programmable interaction, and interactive response. This means toys will no longer be passive entertainment tools — they will serve as “learning companions” that can help children develop logical thinking, creative expression, and a basic understanding of robotics through simple programming and interaction.
