Meta’s Social Media Outlook 2025: Facebook, Instagram, and Threads Business Guide

Meta’s Facebook, Instagram, and Threads are the most discussed social media platforms for Hong Kong people – especially Threads, whose rapid growth everyone witnessed last year.

As we head into 2025, let’s predict the development and changes of these social media based on our experience and observations of using the platforms.

You may be numb to statements like “Facebook is dying.” Although there are no actual numbers, many have indeed felt a reduction in Facebook usage in daily life, reflected in fewer friends posting on Facebook and a decline in the organic reach of page posts.

However, have you noticed more suggested posts on your Timeline?

Compared to before, it is now more challenging for page posts to reach their audiences. It is believed that this is why Facebook introduced the @Followers feature, allowing page and group managers to notify all followers of important messages at once.

Facebook’s ability to achieve advertising performance goals has always been commendable, whether in acquiring leads, conversions, or traffic. The overall cost and quality are better than many platforms, which is why Facebook will continue to be a platform we must use for advertising in 2025.

If you haven’t managed any groups or group posts for your product or service, consider doing so in the coming year instead of focusing solely on pages. We also do not recommend giving up on Facebook as a platform.

Instagram remains prominent in 2025

Instagram is undoubtedly one of the most popular social media in recent years, and its users are generally younger compared to Facebook.

Last year, many brands significantly increased their resources allocated to Instagram. Based on the official updates focusing on Instagram, it is clear that Instagram remains a key platform for Meta.

Looking back, Reels can be seen as Instagram’s smart move, helping it compete with TikTok for the youth market.

💡 If you manage your own account, consider using Reels to reach non-followers. If you are not adept at creating Reels, the recent update allows you to add music to carousel posts, which will then appear in Reels, increasing your organic reach!

Instagram Algorithm: Changes to Note for Business

Will Threads outperform Instagram in 2025 in terms of social media penetration?

Social Media Supernova - Threads

According to Meta’s Q3 financial report, Threads currently has 275 million monthly active users worldwide, with over 1 million new users registering daily, and experiencing strong growth in the United States, Japan, Taiwan, and other regions.

Anyone who has downloaded Threads can experience its charm. It is a known fact that Threads can reach students and young people.

Even with a brand new Threads account and no followers, as long as the discussion topics are interesting and resonate with the audience, you can still receive tens of thousands of organic views, over a thousand likes, and shares. Threads is a platform where content determines success.

However, the official announcement of an immediate algorithm change at the end of November last year, increasing the proportion of posts from followed accounts, will require further observation to assess its impact.

The business applications of Threads will further strengthen in 2025

Apart from Instagram, Meta has clearly focused on this new platform. One highlight is that in 2025, Threads will introduce advertising.

However, will the format of advertising be similar to other Meta platforms, or will it align more with the nature of Threads, appearing predominantly in text form? Or will it follow the advertising style of X? We will have to await further official announcements.

While some Threads users lament the upcoming end of the ad-free environment, we believe that the introduction of advertisements will not lead to a significant user exodus. Platforms that are widely used and attractive typically have advertising or paid features. As long as the user experience is not significantly compromised, a balance can be achieved.

Meta has also begun to separate Instagram and Threads. For instance, creating a new account on Threads will no longer automatically import your Instagram followers, allowing you to follow different accounts on each platform separately. This move indicates that Threads has already developed its own momentum for growth and no longer requires the assistance of Instagram as it did initially.

Summary

Meta, as the parent company of major social media platforms, holds a very stable position, and Facebook still performs exceptionally well in achieving advertising goals.

Instagram is widely recognized as one of the most popular platforms in recent years, and the rising star platform Threads has shown significant momentum. Let’s not forget that WhatsApp, the commonly used messaging app globally, also belongs to Meta.

We are very optimistic about the development of Threads in 2025 and look forward to seeing the changes that will come with the addition of advertising features.
